Michigan is the eighth most hate-filled state in the country as it relates to prejudice against black and Hispanic/Latino people and other minorities, at least according to a new algorithm-aided search of Internet word searches by a website.
Abodo has compiled a study that analyzes tweets in trying to discern areas of the country where prejudice is most prevalent. They studied pejorative terms not only for blacks and Hispanics, but also women, gays and lesbians, transgender people, the disabled and even the overweight.

In terms of overall derogatory language by state, Michigan came in eighth — behind Louisiana, Nevada, Texas, Maryland, Delaware, Ohio and California. That was based on its 925 derogatory tweets out of 100,000.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Georgia and Ohio.
The list breaks down specific targets by city, and Detroit residents made 1,824 gendered insults per 100,000 tweets, ranking ninth on that list. For the sake of comparison, in the No. 1 city for those insults, New Orleans, there were 3,696 gendered insults per 100,000 tweets.
However, when the word “bitch” was removed from the search criteria, Detroit didn’t make the list.
If you live — or plan to move to as a result of the tweet analysis — in the following states, you’ll reside in the ten least-derogatory states: Wyoming; Montana; Vermont; South Dakota; Idaho; Arkansas; Minnesota; Maine; North Dakota; and Wisconsin.
