The student organizers were thrilled by the high level of participation throughout the afternoon.”

Sports and Entertainment Marketing organized and ran games in the courtyard which included a quarterback toss, basketball challenge, golf challenge, corn toss, cup challenge, slap shot hockey, easy striker and fast pitch. A dunk tank was available for students to get a few of their teachers soaked.
On Wednesday morning, students set-up their games, activities, promotional posters and prizes before the first lunch block. When students entered the courtyard with their lunches, they were welcomed by music, games and refreshments throughout the open space.
Students were greeted at the games by sports and entertainment marketing students who had worked throughout the school year to plan, advertise and promote the event from what they had learned throughout the year in their course.
After enjoying an afternoon full of activities and refreshments, students returned to their classes and awaited the announcement of the annual raffle. For a donation of $1 to American Cancer, students and staff had the opportunity to win prizes including Yeezy’s, Apple AirPods, Apple Watch, concert tickets, sport event tickets, sports memorabilia and gift cards generously donated by local businesses in the community.
Junior Bradley Simtob shared, “It was a great experience learning how to sell to not only other students, but to the staff and community as well.”
Julie Zalla shared, “Students were able to use what they learned throughout the school year about event planning, community outreach and fundraising to organize the event. It takes a great deal of work to organize the event, but I can’t think of a more fun or rewarding way to implement all that students have learned in the classroom.”
Sports and Entertainment Marketing Senior Annetta Lekas shared, “It was great being part of something that helps such a great cause.” Junior, Abigayle Schell summed the event up by saying, “It was great seeing everyone come together for such an important cause.”
Proceeds from the event will be donated to The West Bloomfield High School Relay for Life team. This is a team formed as part of Relay For Life of West Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills. Relay For Life is a community based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. This year the event will be held on June 2nd at St. Mary of Orchard Lake.
