WBHS student qualifies to march in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

CRAWFORD PREPARES TO WALK 34TH ST. IN NYC WITH MACY'S GREAT AMERICAN MARCHING BAND

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Michigan — West Bloomfield High School student Zachary Crawford was selected to represent WBHS 2018 Macy’s 92nd annual Thanksgiving Day parade.

“This has been a dream of mine for my entire high school career,” said Crawford, WBHS Junior. “Participating in one of the most iconic parades in history is something that not many people can
say they’ve done.”

Crawford auditioned on his alto saxophone this past March. He had to demonstrate his marching, playing and music selection abilities. Crawford wants to thank everyone who has helped him
achieve this milestone, but especially Chad Mielens, WBHS Director of Bands, and Greg Koltyk, private saxophone instructor.

"Zachary worked hard at preparing his saxophone solo piece for his audition and is now able to reap the benefits of his careful practice,” said Koltyk. “Be proud, Zach!"

The Macy’s Great American Marching Band is under the direction of Auburn University's Dr. Richard Good and assisted music educators from across the country. The band consists of 185 musicians and will be complemented by approximately 40 flags and dancers.
