Week in Sports: Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball and More

Tired of the snow and cold, West Bloomfield High School players are eager to be back on the field as Frankel Jewish Academy students return from Passover break.

The week ahead promises exciting action as several teams at warm up after the majority of last week’s scheduled games were postponed due to weather, and the teams at return after Passover break. Please check back throughout the week, every week, as West Bloomfield Patch updates with the latest results and statistics from the games.

Monday

The WBHS varsity baseball team will travel to Bloomfield Andover High in search of its first win of the year. The Lakers will look to rebound after a heartbreaking 23-22 loss to Farmington High on Wednesday, during which they gave up the final run in the bottom of the eighth inning to the Falcons on a wild pitch. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, the WBHS girls varsity soccer team will travel to seventh-ranked Troy Athens High to improve upon its undefeated record. The Lakers improved to a 3-0-1 record in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) White Division last week, thanks in large part to senior captain Taylor Hotz’s four goals in an 8-0 win over Southfield-Lathrup High on Tuesday. The game against Athens High begins at 7:30 p.m.

The WBHS varsity lacrosse team will attempt to top its victories total from the entire 2010 season as the Lakers host Troy High at 7 p.m. WBHS topped Royal Oak Schools 10-6 Thursday to improve its record to 5-2 on the season. Last season, WBHS went 5-11.

Tuesday

The WBHS boys varsity baseball team will travel to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Catholic High in a game beginning at 4 p.m., while the Lakers girls tennis team will travel to Bloomfield Hills Middle School to play Andover High at 4 p.m. Coach Lee Averill’s Lakers varsity track and field team will play against Clarkston High and Rochester Adams High at 5 p.m.

Wednesday

The WBHS boys varsity baseball game will host Bloomfield Hills Lahser High in a game beginning at 4 p.m., while the Lakers girls tennis team will host Saline High at 4 p.m. Coach Jaclyn Pilkiewicz’s Lakers varsity softball team will play a doubleheader at home against Troy High. The softball team has struggled to get in the field, as its OAA White Division season opener against Lake Orion High was canceled last week due to weather. The Lakers stand at 0-2.

Elsewhere, the FJA Jaguars baseball team will travel to Royal Oak Shrine Catholic High to play at 4 p.m.

Thursday

The FJA girls tennis team travels to Madison Heights Bishop Foley High to play at 4 p.m., while the FJA baseball team hosts Shrine Catholic High.

The WBHS girls tennis team travels to Rochester High for a game at 4 p.m., while the Lakers girls soccer team travels to Lahser High for a game at 7 p.m.

Friday

The WBHS baseball team will travel to Royal Oak High for a game at 4 p.m., while the Lakers lacrosse team travels to Plymouth-Canton Salem High for a game at 7 p.m.

Correction: The WBHS varsity lacrosse team will host Troy High at 7 p.m. Monday. The Lakers went 5-11 last season.
