Week in Sports: Lakers Girls Seek Soccer Division Lead

Monday

In the boys baseball team’s last game , the Lakers’ pitcher Tyler Grafmiller came through for six innings, four strikeouts, no walks and seven hits in a 12-3 win.

“He gave us a bulldog effort today,” West Bloomfield head coach Eric Pierce said of Grafmiller after the game. “He’s not a pitcher that’s going to overpower you, per se, but he counts on a lot of control and has command over four pitches. He didn’t have his best stuff and got us through six innings.”

The Lakers (4-6; 2-4 Oakland Activities Association Blue Division) will host Farmington Hills Harrison High School to make up more ground in the division.

Girls tennis: WBHS vs. Bloomfield Andover High School, 4 p.m.
Girls softball: WBHS vs. Troy Athens High School, doubleheader with games at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Boys baseball: WBHS vs. Harrison High, 4 p.m.

Tuesday

All WBHS students will be admitted free as the Lakers’ girls soccer team hosts Birmingham Groves High School in a game that could decide the OAA White Division champion. The Lakers’ (6-1-2; 6-0-2 OAA White) pitted tied division leaders WBHS and Andover High but ended in a scoreless tie.

“It’s just unfortunate — we had our chances, we didn’t take care of them," head coach Jason Clark said after the game. "The finishing was our problem. It’s something we can work on when we work on finishing our league season.”

Meanwhile, the Lakers' boys lacrosse team will head to Ann Arbor to take on Greenhills High School after beating Madison Heights Bishop Foley High School last week to double its win total from the previous season. The Lakers' record currently stands at 6-4, thanks in part to senior Nathan Rabens’ 55 goals on the year.
