Schools Award $500K in Scholarships at West Bloomfield Admissions Fair
Colleges and universities award $500,000 in scholarships during the school's third admissions fair.
Nearly 100Β West Bloomfield High School seniors connected with admissions counselors from 14 colleges and universities last week, during the school'sΒ Third Annual On-Site College Admissions Fair.Β
Counselor Lisa Graff said students came away from thoseΒ Oct. 16Β meetings with admission decisions and scholarships.Β
βOur ability to help students with college planning has increased tremendously," she said.Β "There is a great sense of both excitement and relief to get accepted and have a confirmed plan so early in the senior year."
Most seniors were admitted to at least one college, andΒ counselors report that more thanΒ $500,000 in scholarships were awarded.Β Additionally, students attended informational meetings on scholarship opportunities and preparing for college. Β
In student surveys following the event, senior Lamont Davis called itΒ βa great experienceβ, andΒ Mario Giglio said βI would do it again if I couldβ.
Many of the participating universities offered free applications, and transcripts and ACT scoresΒ for every participating studentΒ were provided to each university free of charge by West Bloomfield High School.Β Additionally, the Optimist Clubs of Keego Harbor and West Bloomfield provided book scholarships, which were raffled to six participating students.
