Whiz Kid: Danielle Ostrovsky Swings to Success
West Bloomfield 'Gym Dog' looks ahead to first gymnastics meet with competitiveness and determination.

Every week, Patch spotlights young people in the West Bloomfield community who are successful, talented and just plain awesome. We're pleased to introduce this week's Whiz Kid:
Danielle Ostrovsky
- Grade: 7th
- School:
- Sport: Gymnastics
Danielle, 12, channels Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas as she steps onto the mat to practice her uneven bars routine for what seems like the hundredth time. It is hard work, but Danielle has been known to say she could “swing on the bars forever.”
First joining Oakland Gymnastics and recently moving to West Bloomfield Gymnastics to support the “Gym Dogs,” Danielle has found success with her specialty, the uneven bars, after entering the sport five years ago.

When asked what she likes most about gymnastics, she says "the competitiveness" and her coach's choreography. Danielle is currently a “silver” level 6 gymnast but hopes to one day reach the highest level in gymnastics: level 10 and support a top university’s gymnastics team.
Out of the gym, Danielle is a 4.0 student at Berkshire, where her favorite subjects are math and science. Danielle is also an avid reader.

Do you know a special young person in the community who deserves a round of applause because he volunteers instead of playing video games after school? Or maybe your daughter's science club is trying to challenge the way we think about the energy crisis? Or maybe your son's lacrosse team won its first game in three years? Everyone deserves a little attention, and we want to tell these stories.
