Winter Wonder Bowl Hosted by Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce

Calling all pirates and mermaids!

What better way to spend a chilly Saturday afternoon in February than dressing up as a pirate or a mermaid and going bowling? The Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Chamber member Wonderland Lanes for an afternoon of family fun that will include the chance for parents to take pictures of their children with pirates and mermaids. Participants are encouraged to dress like their favorite pirate, mermaid, deep sea or island character. The event will be held on Sunday, February 11, with check-in beginning at 11:30 a.m. and bowling from noon until 2:00 p.m.

The Winter Wonder Bowl will feature crazy bowling games for all ages and treats and prizes for all participants. The cost for ages 5-12 is $15 in advance and $20 at the door; for ages 13 and up the cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Each bowler will get two games of bowling, shoe rental, two slices of pizza and a soft drink. Advance registration is available by calling the Lakes Area Chamber at 248-624-2826. The bowler registration form is also available online at www.lakesareachamber.com and at Wonderland Lanes. Wonderland Lanes is located at 8265 Richardson Road in Commerce.

This event is being made possible through the generous sponsorship of local businesses. They include Major Sponsors Dance Dynamics Performing Arts Center; Doug Browne Agency-Farm Bureau Insurance of MI; Huron Valley State Bank; State Representative Klint Kesto; Modern Floors/Carpet One; Skull Island Camp; Travel Plus/Travel Leaders; Uncle Buck's Party Rental; and Woodbrook Painting & Powerwashing. Recognizing that all people in the Lakes Area community should be warm this winter, a coat drive will be held during the event. Participants are asked to bring new or clean, gently used coats, which will be donated to the Open Door Outreach Center in Waterford.

If having a great time and donating to a worthwhile charity isn't enough incentive to get up off the couch, bowling also improves balance and coordination as it works the core and arm muscles. For a 140 pound person, 30 minutes of bowling can burn almost 100 calories, according to exercise.com.
