4 Years After Getting it By Mistake, Homeless Man Still Looking for Diamond Ring Owner

Mike Secaur admits he’s “dead broke.”

The homeless Pontiac man also admits he considered pawning a diamond ring that slipped in his palm with a handful of change – probably by accident – when he was panhandling in February 2011.

But in the nearly four years since, Secaur has resisted the temptation to turn it into fast cash, WWJ/CBS Detroit. Instead, it sits in a safety deposit box at a shelter where he occasionally stays.

“First thing I thought of was pawning it (but) it wasn’t the right thing to do,” Secaur, 49, said. “If she didn’t mean to give to me – ending up in the pawn shop would be the wrong thing to do.

“The hard part is I’m dead broke – but it’s worth more to her than to me,” he said.

Secaur said he is chronically homeless. He spent time in jail and the hospital before he lost his job, and health issues have exacerbated his lack of stability, he said.

He reached out to WWJ/CBS Detroit to help find the rightful owner. He describes her as white, in her late 50s, with blond hair and medium build. She wore glasses and was driving a navy blue minivan, possibly a Chevrolet, at the time.
