Shows will run starting tonight, Thursday May 23 at 8pm and Friday and Saturday at 8pm plus a Saturday afternoon matinee at 2pm.  OUR ONLY MAY AMELIA will be presented on the main stage at Pontiac High School 1051 Arlene, Pontiac, MI.

Our Only May Amelia is an adaption of the Newberry book award winning author Jennifer L. Holm and tells the tale of a determined young May Amelia who is the only girl in her family and surely must be the only girl in her community and the entire Nasel River.  When her cousin Kaarlo fosters into the family and believes girls and especially May Amelia to be pretty useless in the isolated wildnerness, things heat up.  In the end, everyone acknowledges she is OUR ONLY MAY AMELIA but it’s a bumpy boat ride along the way.  Come on out and support the kids and adults from the Huron Valley and Oakland County as the perform a tale of days gone by.  I’m not funning ya, it’s a really good story!

A number of cast members (also actors at Lakeland Players in Waterford which was just named “one of the best three live theatres” in the Oakland Press poll for 2013) are together again on stage in Our Only May Amelia.  They are Laura Johns playing Alma, Andrew Livernois as Matti, Eric Brakke at Kaarlo, and Daina Schippers as May Amelia for two of the four performances at Pontiac High School this weekend.

Other talented cast round out the acting team that depict the story of the hard working Jackson family, of Finnish descent toughing it out in the Pacific Northwest back in 1899. They are: Estevan Contreras as Jalmer, Jarrod Dutcher as Wilbert, Jenna Smith as Aunt Alice, Nancy Mitchell as Grandmother, and Rebecca Gloden as Mary O’Casey.

The show is produced and directed by the amazing John Tonner with assistance of Lillie Ferrell and Raven Smith and a host of other backstage crew, production technicians, volunteers and parent helpers.  Costuming was provided by Pat Delaire.
