An Oxford native was awarded $1,000 scholarship from the Flint chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Bethany Gibson, of Oxford, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Flint Chapter. Gibson is a student in the architectural technology program at Baker College of Flint.
βBethany exemplifies what hard work and dedication can achieve, and we are very proud to be a part of her ongoing success,β said Athanas Manyama, associate professor in Baker College of Flintβs architectural technology program. βThe AIA Flint scholarship award recognizes her success by providing assistance to help her continue to excel in her education.β
Gibson plans to complete her bachelorβs in architectural technology and a certificate in bookkeeping spring of 2017. Her long-term goal is to earn a Master of Architecture and become a licensed architect.

Last summer, Gibson completed an internship at 3D Imaging Services in Flint, a company that serves the architecture, engineering and construction industries with 3D laser scanning and as-built documentation. She learned new computer programs, became competent in field use of a laser scanner and created 3D images from a point cloud. She hopes to use this experience to gain contract work as she continues to pursue her degree.
The AIA scholarship fund is dedicated to helping students in Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer counties in their pursuit of a professional architecture degree at a college or university with an architecture program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or an associate degree in architectural technology. Funding comes from annual golf outing contributions and matching grant monies from AIA National.
