Boy Plans Valentine's Day Gift of Knee-Length Hair

Jaylen Brown, 4, has never had a haircut.

The Sterling Heights boy’s thick mane flows past his knees in keeping with what has become a family tradition. His dad didn’t get his first haircut until he was almost 5, and neither did Jaylen’s siblings.

And it hurts like heck when his mom brushes out the tangles.

“I hate it,” he told WJBK-TV. “I hate it when I get brushed.”

That will all change with a spin in the barber’s chair on Valentine’s Day – Jaylen’s 5th birthday – in a sweet gesture that will help kids who lost their hair to cancer, or never grew any to begin with.

“Sometimes they don’t have hair because they’re sick,” Jaylen said.

He’s not the only one looking forward to “no more hair on my head.”

“It is a lot of hair,” said Nichole Brown, the boy’s mother. “It’s a lot of work for me to take care of.”

The family didn’t say where they’ll donate the hair once it’s sheared from Jaylen’s scalp, but there are several charities that accept hair donations to make wigs for kids and adults. Here are a few of them:
