'Finding Mona' Artist Studio/Gallery Tour

Huron Valley Council for the Arts’ second annual Finding Mona: An Artist Studio and Gallery Tour, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 focuses upon displaying the work of local fine artists to the public.

Participants in the Finding Mona artwalk can expect studio tours, gallery visits, demonstrations, and special discounts. They can choose between either taking a shuttle or engaging in a self-guided tour. Participants will have the chance to meet the artists and witness their work in action. Music also will be featured at many of the “stops.”

Tickets are now on sale now for this event, which starts out from HVCA, 205 W. Livingston Rd in Highland; the event then moves on to various galleries and studios in the Highland/Milford/West Oakland County region.

“Patrons can expect to be mesmerized and surprised by the creative diversity from the artists in the area,” explained HVCA executive director Leah Ohmer. “Local artists, whose work incorporates a wide variety of artistic mediums, including, among other things, quilting, spinning, weaving, watercolors, acrylics, plein air painting, mixed media,  pottery, and jewelry, are happy to have patrons visit their studios and demonstrate their talents for the public.

"We are most fortunate to have many celebrity and award-winning artists and art galleries in our community,” Ohmer said. “Finding Mona Artwalk will be an opportunity for individuals to become aware of the depth of talent in our region by visiting the artists’ studios and galleries for a culturally enriching experience.

“HVCA is having this fundraiser to promote the understanding and appreciation of the arts, and to enhance the cultural life of our communities,” she added. “The HVCA has been a member of the regional community for over 10 years and is an organization dedicated to the belief that community life is enriched and enhanced by the arts in many forms.”

“I am very pleased to have you visit my in home studio,” enthused local artist Pam O’Neil, whose work was featured in HVCA’s gallery during the month of August.

“I am offering you an exciting view of color and contemporary visions from my perspective on the world. We will enjoy refreshments and a classy, casual approach to art.”

Tickets, which are $10 for adults and free for children who are 11 or younger, are on sale at two locations: HVCA and Main Street Art, 432 N. Main St. in Milford. Maps, which include all artist locations, are available at both ticket sites.
