In Brief: Highland Middle School to Close in Fall

The International Academy program will stay at Lakeland High School.

The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education voted 5-2 tonight to close Highland Middle School.

Board President Lisa Blackwell and Vice President Charles Dittmar were the two dissenters.

The vote ends a year of debate amongst district officials on how to address declining revenues and declining middle school enrollment numbers. Closing the building will save the district approximately $800,000, according to the district officials.
