Established in 2007 by MOT Chorus Master Suzanne Mallare Acton, MOTCC has become a ground-breaking children’s chorus and the first of its kind for the Metro Detroit area. As a permanent ensemble of MOT, MOTCC provides exceptional choral and theatrical performance instruction in a professional environment. Choristers from the age of 8 to 16 perform with international opera stars in mainstage productions and in individually produced fully staged children’s operas in the spring. Of the 80 children chosen by open audition to represent Metro Detroit, 1 chorister from White Lake was selected into this distinguished program for the 2017-18 season and will be appearing in A Winter Fantasy.

Within only ten years, MOTCC has trained over 350 singers, some of whom have gone on to study at some of the most prestigious conservatories in the United States. The program also prepares young singers for success not only in the classical world but also other genres of music, including music theatre, jazz and pop. β€œMOTCC laid the most solid foundation for me in terms of musical training,” said Ryan Hurley, Vocal Performance Major at the Julliard School and MOTCC alumnus, β€œThere is no doubt I could not be where I am today without this program.” Malaya Watson, American Idol Finalist, Composition Major at Berklee College of Music and MOTCC alumnus said MOTCC was her first professional performing experience.

β€œThe experience was refreshing; to be around people that have the same drive and interest as you musically is a tremendous feeling. It makes you feel like you belong somewhere, kind of like a family. It also exposed me to the classical side of music which I still enjoy to this day.”

The event will feature guest alumni solo performances, including performances by Hurley and Watson.
