Police: Man Hid Heroin, Needle in Buttocks

During a routine traffic stop, police saw evidence the occupants of the vehicle were using heroin, a growing problem in Oakland County.

If weird crime is your thing, sit on this one:

On Sunday, Michigan police officers discovered a passenger in a vehicle that had just been stopped had heroin and an uncapped needle hidden between his buttocks, The Oakland Press reports.

A White Lake Township police officer initiated the stop about 5 p.m. Sunday at Le Grand Boulevard and Cedar Brook Estates because the vehicle had loud exhaust pipes, but then discovered needles in the car as he spoke with the driver.

Upon further investigation, authorities discovered the passenger’s creative – and potentially painful – hiding place for the drugs and paraphernalia.

The driver, a 33-year-old Highland man, was charged with driving with a suspended license. His passenger, a 31-year-old White Lake man, faces more serious heroin and drug paraphernalia charges.

Both were booked in the Oakland County Jail.

Township police Lt. Daniel Keller said heroin use, long believed to be a plague of inner cities, is on the upswing in Oakland County, where White Lake and some of Michigan’s most affluent suburbs are located.

β€œIt’s easy to get and it’s inexpensive,” Keller said.

Among the reasons for the growing problem is that addicts find heroin easier and cheaper to obtain than more expensive prescription painkillers containing opiates, the Detroit Free Press said in a report last spring.

On a single day in October, Oakland County authorities responded to three heroin overdoses, more evidence of the county’sΒ burgeoning heroin problem.
