Student, 14, Arrested After Alleged Columbine-Like Threat
A Highland youth was arrested after allegedly threatening on social media to "shoot up Milford High School."

A 14-year-old Highland youth was taken into custody Saturday after he allegedly made threats on social media that he planned to βshoot up Milford HIgh School like Columbineβ Monday.
The threats were made on the KIK application, the Oakland County Sheriffβs Office said in a news release. The schoolβs resource officer was notified of the threat by the Milford Police Department.

The suspect, who was interviewed with his parents, appeared in the juvenile division of Oakland County Circuit Court on charges of making a false report of an act of terrorim for threatening to re-create the infamousColumbine High School massacre, The Oakland Press reports. He could potentially be in custody until heβs 19 if convicted of the charges.
Sgt. Scott Howden of the sheriffβs department said multiple guns were removed from the boyβs home during a search, The Detroit News reports.

βI donβt know if he had access (to the firearms) or not,β Howden said. βThey were just removed from the residence.β
Milford High School is part of the Huron Valley Schools, which said the student will remain out of school during the criminal investigation and will be subject to the districtβs student code of conduct if he seeks to return to school.
βThe only positive to take from the situation is the fact that the system worked as it should,β Huron Valley Schools Superintendent Jim Baker said in a statement. βOur students, parents, law enforcement and administrative team all acted appropriately to assure that the threats were not able to be acted upon.β
District Spokeswoman Kim Root told The Oakland Press the teen was βnot someone weβve had lots of issues with in the past.β
