Most people who live above the Mason-Dixon line are suffering from a vitamin D deficiency, due to much less exposure to the sun as those southern of the line. There was recently a report published in the journal of Pain that discussed a trial done on fibromyalgia and the effects of vitamin D in relieving the chronic pain that characterizes the disease. The trial provided half the subjects with vitamin D and half with a placebo, which is an empty pill used to the psychological parts of medication. Many aspects were evaluated before and after the experiments such as pain, anxiety and depression, and physical sensations to compare the levels compared to who took the vitamins and who did not. There was a significant reduction in pain with those who recieved the vitamin compared to to those who had the placebo had no changes in their pain. My advice is to have your doctor test the vitamin D level in your blood.
