Boat Tour Leaves Wyandotte, Circles Grosse Ile Lighthouse

That day is Sunday and there are plenty of opportunities to check out the lighthouse, both on foot and from afar.

The Grosse Ile Historical Society's Annual Lighthouse Tour includes an optional ride aboard the Diamond Queen. The boat will travel down the channel, around the Detroit River Lighthouse and past the Grosse Ile Light.

After filling up on rich history at the Grosse Ile Light, 25 guests will hop aboard the Diamond Queen and enjoy a light meal, cash bar and a guided tour by Robert Gauthier, a retired employee of the Army Corp of Engineers.

Those taking the boat tour will have the chance to take the first three tours of the lighthouse. Those begin at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

Tickets are $45 for the lighthouse and boat tour and $40 for the boat tour only.

Those taking the tour aboard the Diamond Queen will need to be in Wyandotte by 3 p.m. to board. The boat tour departs at 3:30 p.m.

Those wanting to strictly tour the lighthouse themselves can do so at 2 p.m. Tickets for just the Grosse Ile Light tour are $10 for adults and $8 for children 17 and under.

Tickets will be sold the day of the event, but historical society officials encourage people to purchase tickets in advance due to limited availability.

Tickets are available at the Grosse Ile Depot Museum, 25020 East River Road, and by calling historical society president Tammy Taylor 734-675-7294.
