City Council Strikes Down Fee for Property Tax Info

One council member called the $2 charge 'nonsense and ridiculous.'

The Wyandotte City Council last week eliminated a $2 service fee charged to individuals accessing property tax information online, according to a News-Herald report.

The city receives 40 cents from each service charge, and the rest goes to the online company the city is contracted with, the report stated. Nixing the fee means the city would pay a $6,000 flat fee to the company, the report added.

Councilwoman Sheri Sutherby-Fricke, who placed the fee item on the agenda of the March 2 meeting, led the charge to ditch the fee.

“This is nonsense and ridiculous that we charge $2 for a service fee,” said Sutherby-Fricke, according to the report. “Six thousand dollars is nothing to provide this service to our residents.”

The vote to get rid of the fee was unanimous, the report added.
