Council Delays Police Chief's Contract Extension to Get 2nd Opinion

Police and Fire Commission will review the 5-year extension before it is approved.

A five-year contract extension for Wyandotte’s police chief was put on hold so it could be evaluated by the Police and Fire Commission, according to a News-Herald report.

Mayor Joseph Peterson asked Monday that the Wyandotte City Council hit the pause button on Chief Daniel Grant’s extension until the commission, which appoints the police chief, could review it, the report stated. This action follows protocol laid out by the city charter, according to the report. Grant’s contract extension had been on the agenda of the council’s Monday, March 2, meeting, the report added.

Grant, who has been chief since 2007, will still be under contract while he waits for the commission to look at the extension, the report stated. The extension’s term also are not significantly different to those outlined in his current agreement, the report added.
