Evans Trounces Ficano in Democratic Primary for Wayne County Executive
Warren Evans walked away with his party's nod for county executive, is presumptive winner in November in heavily Democratic Wayne County.

Embattled Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano was trounced in Tuesday’s Democratic primary election, winning only 6 percent of the vote in a crowded field of 11 candidates seeking the nomination. The win went to former Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans, who had 44 percent of the vote.
Evans called the win “a victory for all of us,” The Detroit News reports.
“Turning around Wayne County is not a job for a chief executive officer,” he said. “It’s a job for a team and a leader. I think I’m that leader.”

Wayne County, the state’s most populous, has been rocked with scandal under Ficano’s administration, mostly unstained until the last three years of his administration, the Detroit Free Press reports.
His financial management of the county has been questioned, but Ficano still hasn’t been accused of a crime, though several of his aides were indicted on and pleaded guilty to corruption charges.
