WYANDOTTE – One in four adults - or about 57 million Americans - experience a mental health disorder in a given year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
And 10 percent of children and adolescents in the U.S suffer from serious emotional and mental disorders that cause significant functional impairment in their day-to-day lives at home, in school, and with peers.
And one more fact: by 2020, major depressive illness will be the leading cause of disability in the world for women and children.
On Tuesday, May 19, the National Alliance on Mental Illness will present “In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness” at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. The event is part of month-long activities aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of mental illness during May, Mental Health Month.
