Man Dies After Jumping Into Detroit River in Wyandotte
Police have ruled the death a suicide, saying the man had a long history of mental illness.

A 54-year-old Flat Rock man died Sunday after jumping into the Detroit River in Wyandotte.
Glenn Currivean jumped over the railing along the pier area at Bishop Park in what police are calling a suicide attempt.
Currivean was with his brother, who could be heard screaming for someone to help his brother, Police Chief Daniel Grant said.

At least one person jumped into the river to try to rescue the man, Grant said. Some fishermen on a boat ultimately were able to grab him and bring him ashore.
By that time, however, it's estimated that he had been in the water for about 10 minutes, Grant said. He was taken to , where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In colder months, Grant said, a person can survive in the frigid waters for about three minutes. With the water a bit warmer due to unseasonably higher temperatures, he said, a person can withstand the water for about five minutes before becoming lethargic and passing out.
The deceased's brother told police that Currivean suffered a long history of mental illness and had attempted to commit suicide in the past.
