Police Give All Clear After Bomb Threat at Roosevelt

A bomb threat called into the high school at 10:25 a.m. was deemed to be a false alarm.

Police gave the all-clear late Wednesday morning after students reported finding a bomb threat written in a boys' bathroom at

School Superintendent Carla Harting said two teens spotted the threatening message at about 10:25 a.m. and immediately reported it to workers in the main office.

"We called the police and the chief, Dan Grant, came with some officers," she said. "They investigated the situation, checked out the school and determined the threat was not credible. We are still investigating. We always take these threats seriously."

The school was placed in lockdown mode while the threat was investigated, meaning classroom doors were locked and students were precluded from leaving their rooms until the all-clear was given at about 11:15 a.m.

Harting said school and police officials are still investigating.

"If we determine who did this, they will be prosecuted," she said.

This was the first bomb threat since Harting became superintendent in July. She said everyone did exactly as they are trained to do.

"Things were really calm," she said. "Both students and staff handled the situation really well and did exactly what is called for in our crisis plan. ... We really appreciate the cooperation of the The city working cooperatively with us makes a huge difference."
