Police: Murder Suspect Gave Birth in Toilet, Sealed Baby in Plastic Bag

A Wyandotte woman was arraigned Friday on charges alleging she intentionally killed her newborn, then hid the baby's body near her desk.

A Wyandotte woman has been charged with felony murder, premeditated murder and child abuse after she allegedly gave birth in a restroom stall at her job last month, and then hid the baby in a sealed plastic bag near her desk.

Police said the baby, a boy, was alive when Kimberly Pappas, 25, allegedly gave birth to him March 31 in a restroom at Ceva Logistics in Redford, where she had a temporary job. An autopsy showed the baby died of suffocation.

Pappas was arraigned at noon Friday in 17th Judicial District Court. A Redford detective testified that she gave birth in the toilet, sealed the baby in a plastic bag and then hid it in a tote bag.

Employees at the Redford company noticed blood in the restroom the morning of the baby’s birth. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the full-term baby, but were unsuccessful.
