Prosecutor Weighs Charges in 'Robocop,' Police in Another Violent Arrests Caught on Video
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to announce charging decision in alleged police brutality cases at news conference.

Wayne County Attorney Kym Worthy will announce Monday whether her office will file police brutality charges in a pair of high-profile arrests captured on video.
The arrests – including one involving fired Inkster cop William “Robocop” Melendez and another by officers with a multi-jurisdictional anti-carjacking task force – sparked national outrage during a time when police tactics are under greater scrutiny nationally.

Worthy’s news conference is at the 11 a.m. in her office in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, The Detroit News said. The announcement of charging decisions comes after the Michigan State Police investigated both arrests.
In the Inkster case, a pair of officers are shown on video kicking and punching Floyd Dent, 57, during a January traffic stop.

After the video surfaced in the felony drug prosecution of Dent, the Inkster City Council suspended Melendez for five days and then fired him, Teamsters Local 214 business representative Al Lewis told The Detroit News
Melendez kept his part-time position in Highland Park.
Another Highland Park officer, Sgt. Ronald Dupuis, 42, is shown in a bystander’s cell phone video of a violent arrest of Jackson. Jackson, who was arrested in January, is now suing the officers who allegedly kicked, beat and admonished him for invoking Jesus’ name for $1 million.
