Witty Golfer, 87, Steals the Show in Wyandotte
Doris Karr and her 33-year-old great-nephew met the combined age of 120 required for tournament.
Golfers' ages were more important than their swinging style at a two-person scramble held May 15 at .
In order to participate, the combined ages of both people had to be at least 120.
The twosome of Gary Trapani and Lloyd Slinglend shot two under par to prevail in a tiebreaker with Ted Loniecki and Greg Lott.

The competition was strong, but the last place team was the story of the day, according to tournament director Ed Ronco.
Ryan Jambeau, 33, and his great-aunt, Doris Karr, 87, stole the show as soon as Doris made it clear that she was ready to play with the "big boys."

"I was impressed with the pluck Doris had in handling the situation and the care and patience that Ryan displayed when he escorted her to the tee, teed up her ball and let her 'have at it,'" Ronco said. "She would whack the ball 30 to 60 yards down the middle then Ryan would hit his shot 230 yards in play. Ryan would escort her back to the cart and they would move on down the fairway to the best shot."
Doris talked a lot about working as a 19-year-old in the steel mill during World War II and the changes she has seen since, Ronco said.
"She joked with us, expressed several times how much fun she was having, and laughed at some of the putts she made–especially her 30 footer from off the green that hit the stick almost falling into the hole," he said.
Play was slow, but not because of Doris.
"When the group in front took longer than needed to clear the green, Doris exclaimed: 'How old are those people up there? They sure are slow,'" Ronco said, saying he and his playing partner, Ken Prygoski, were entertained all day long.
On number eight, Ryan slipped up, hitting his drive well right into the river. Doris knocked one down the middle a whopping 50 yards, turned to Ryan and said, "I’m tired of carrying you."
"I have had memorable moments golfing–St. Andrews, the rare eagle or the winning putt on the last hole," Ronco said. "Added to that list is Doris. She was an experience as rare and delightful as a hole-in-one."
