Wyandotte Woman Charged in Firebombing of Home

Sophia Kaye Pappas, 35, faces the possibility of life in prison, along with two alleged accomplices.

A 35-year-old Wyandotte woman has been charged in connection with a firebombing of a home in the 16700 block of Stanmoor in Livonia.

Sophia Kaye Pappas is charged with soliciting two people–Alvin Leon Echols, 33, of Detroit and Evelyn Alda Lewek, 29, of Redford–to firebomb the home of a 51-year-old woman, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The crime occurred at about 12:50 a.m. Tuesday.

All three are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, which is punishable by life in prison. Each also face charges of assault with intent to murder, punishable by up to life in prison, as well as arson of a dwelling and sending/delivering explosive substance/dangerous thing with intent, both punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

They were arraigned on the charges Friday morning in 16th District Court. They were denied bond and were remanded to jail pending a preliminary examination of the evidence against them. That hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 10.
