4-Year-Old Shoots 2-Year-Old In Southern MN

The incident happened in the back of a vehicle just outside of Fairmont, Minnesota, authorities said.

MARTIN COUNTY, MN — Authorities are investigating after a 4-year-old shot a 2-year-old in the back of a vehicle on Sunday.

On Oct. 15 at about 10:20 a.m., deputies from the Martin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an accidental shooting.

The caller was in a vehicle in Welcome, Minnesota, and was driving to the Mayo Clinic's Fairmont campus. Deputies came to the caller's vehicle, where they found and began treating a 2-year-old for a gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel then arrived and the child was flown by helicopter to the Mayo Clinic. Authorities have not released any information on the child's condition since.

According to investigators, the 4-year-old child in the back of the vehicle found a loaded gun and accidentally shot the 2-year-old, who was also in the backseat.
