Hopscotch Chalk Courts Banned On Anoka City Sidewalks: Report
A new ordinance passed in Anoka will unintentionally prohibit hopscotch courts and other chalk drawings on the city's sidewalks.
ANOKA, MN — A new ordinance passed in Anoka will unintentionally prohibit hopscotch and other chalk drawings on the city's sidewalks, according to a report.
The law is intended to regulate political and offensive displays on public property, but there are no exceptions for things like children's art. The ordinance passed 4-1 on Nov. 1.
"I don't want to make it illegal for a kid to draw on the sidewalk with chalk, which is what we are saying," Anoka City Council Member Erik Skogquist, who voted against the law, told the Star Tribune.
