Minnesota Eyes $188 Million Deficit This Biennium: Budget Office

Unknowns in federal policy create "significant risk" for this forecast, the budget office said.

Minnesota faces a $188 million deficit over the current biennium, the Management and Budget Office announced Tuesday. Projections show that deficit will grow to $586 million in the 2020-21 biennium.

The deficits are due to a reduced U.S. economic growth forecast and spending bills passed by the state Legislature during the 2017 session, officials say.

"Unknowns in federal policy and the current economic expansion, one of the longest in U.S. history, create significant risk for this forecast," the office said in a news release Tuesday.
