Minnesota's Tom Emmer Wants Majority Leader Job: Reports

The Minnesota Republican is looking for a new leadership position following the ousting of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, according to reports.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer, the current Republican Majority Whip, is reportedly planning a run to be the next House majority leader.

The majority leader job is second in command behind the speaker of the House, the position which Rep. Kevin McCarthy was booted from in unprecedented fashion on Tuesday.

According to the Star Tribune, a source said Emmer has started calling fellow House Republicans to garner support for to become majority leader.

The majority leader job is currently occupied by Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who has plans to vacate the position and run for House speaker.
