Rep. Tom Emmer Of MN Endorses Trump, Who Called Him A 'Globalist RINO'
Donald Trump's attack on Rep. Tom Emmer's character back in October doomed his campaign to become speaker of the U.S. House.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just hours after he was nominated as speaker designate on Oct. 24, Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota decided to drop out of the race for U.S. House speaker.
The chief reason was the attack on his character by Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president. On the social media site Truth Social Trump called Emmer a "Globalist RINO" and said it would be a "tragic mistake" to make him the House speaker.
"I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors," Trump wrote at the time. "RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Despite the personal attacks, Emmer on Wednesday announced his endorsement of Trump for president in 2024.
"Democrats have made clear they will use ever tool in their arsenal to try and keep Joe Biden and his failed policies in power," Emmer said. "We cannot let them. It's time for Republicans to unite behind our party's clear frontrunner, which is why I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President."

Emmer, Minnesota's senior-most Republican, is the Republican Majority Whip in the U.S. House. Minnesota's three other Republican House representatives endorsed Trump Wednesday.
In response, Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin wrote that "Minnesota voters have repeatedly rejected Donald Trump’s anti-democracy, anti-abortion politics and his plans to take away working families’ health insurance, but Minnesota Republicans are doubling down. Republicans up and down the ballot in November will have to answer for why they are abandoning Minnesota values and kissing Donald Trump’s ring."
