Agility Tests Offered for Prospective Rosemount Firefighters

Interested in joining the Rosemount Fire Department and want to find out what the physical requirements are for this volunteer position?  The Rosemount Fire Department will put together a Physical agility practice course for anyone interested.

The purpose of the course is to help potential candidates determine if they want to turn in an application and attend the orientation day next year. The practice session will not be a pre-qualifier for the annual orientation, written test and physical agility day that we hold early April.

The practice day will be Saturday, October 20, at 9 a.m. in Fire Station No. 1, located on Shannon Parkway between County Road 42 and 145th Street.

Requirements for the practice course are that participants are at least 18 years of age and live within the City limits, or if outside the City, within four driving minutes to either of the Fire Stations. Station #2 is located east of Highway 3 on the corner of Connemara Trail and Azalea Avenue.

Candidates will perform in full bunker gear and wear an SCBA bottle with no mask.

The course will be a two-part test.  The first part is a five-minute timed obstacle course that includes carrying hose bundles up and down stairs, carrying an exhaust fan, lifting a hose with pulley, and a dummy drag.

The second part is a five-minute timed ladder climb with the ladder truck set up. The ladder will be extended 75 feet at a 45-degree angle. Candidates will climb to the top and back down while escorted by a current Rosemount Firefighter.

Before the tests start candidates will be asked to sign a release form.

If interested e-mail rfdapplication@live.com.  Please state a full name and confirm you will attend on October 20. The event will be canceled unless at least six candidates confirm.

The Rosemount Fire Department thanks participants for their interest.
