Apple Valley 76ers Tumble in Legion Tourney Opener, Return for Win in Game 2
Minneapolis Southwest scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to get past Apple Valley, 8-3, but Apple Valley beat the Meridian, ID team 9-6 in a later game on Friday.
In a wild finish, Minneapolis Southwest scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday to take out the Apple Valley 76ers 8-3 in the opening game of the 2011 Jim Hanus Gopher Classic Baseball Tournament.
But Apple Valley bounced back in its second Friday game, beating a Meridian, ID team 9-6 in tournament play.
The tournament is the largest American Legion tournament in he United States with 66 teams playing at 11 sites. Pool play continues through Sunday with the 11 site winners and runner-ups advancing to the championship round.

The 76ers are scheduled to play Bemidji at 3 p.m. Saturday.
