Apple Valley's Tyus Jones Named To US National Development Team
The Eagles freshman will be part of a group vying for spots on Team USA's U16 National and U17 World Championship teams
Apple Valley High School freshman Tyus Jones was selected as one of 24 members of the 2011-12 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team, USA basketball announced Thursday.
The 2011 U16 National Team and the 2012 U17 World Championship team, should the US qualify, will be comprised of USA Development National Team members, according to the Team USA press release.
Jones, who helped lead the Eagles to the Section 3AAAA championship last week, average 18.3 points per game this season. Apple Valley lost 74-58 to Lakeville South to end its season Friday.

Jones will be coached by two-time USA Basketball Development Coach of the Year Don Showalter of Mid-Prairie High School in Iowa.
The 12-man roster for the 2011 U16 National Team will be selected during a June 10-18 training camp at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

Jones will play with 24 players from 15 different states.
“The challenge will be to see how well they come together,” Showalter said. “The talent’s pretty good.”
