A Christmas Wish

Is technology changing the world in a way we might never have realized? Is there a wish we all could ask for that might help the world? Here is what I think is happening and what could happen!

At my age, when someone asks what you would like for your birthday, or for Christmas, it’s hard to pick out something that you would like to have.   To me, anything is great because as you grow older you really believe that it isn’t the gift that counts, it is the thought.

So, a few years back, when anyone would ask what I would like, I would reply “World Peace!”  Hard to grant, but it’s the thought that counts!

Listening to the headlines the last few mornings about what is happening in Libya,
and remembering what had happened in Tunisia, Egypt and what is happening in Syria, I began to think why is this happening?

So here is what I think. The world is becoming covered in technology.  People can call anywhere because of cell phones.  People can watch TV on their computers or their smart phone.  People can view catalogs and order anything from anywhere and ship it to any place in the world. A window that they did not know existed is now open and the breeze is exciting.

Think about it, a person sees what is going on in other parts of the world and wonders, “Why can’t I have that?”, “Why can’t I live like that?”  They ask their family, their friends and their neighbors, “Why can’t we do that?”  The word spreads, they learn about the power of the internet; they seek answers and find solutions.  They begin to think, “We don’t have to take this, and we can do something about it”.

And so they retake their land, and their government and their freedom.  To these people what better birthday or Christmas gift could they receive?

So I continued my train of thought and came up with two ideas that we could try.

1.  With every load of food, clothing & medicine sent to those countries that need help, we include free cell phones so they can call the world and discover what could be and how they can achieve their dreams...and

2.  On Christmas Day, for the entire 24 hours, everyone should cease sending their usual messages on all social networks, except one message.  And that message would simply be, "WORLD PEACE".
