Apple Valley Student Stars in Famous Chinese Folktale at Stages Theatre

The world premiere of the "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon" will be playing at the Stages Theatre, and stars Valley Middle School student Danielle Wong.

The world premiere of the famous and beautiful Chinese folktale, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, will be playing at the Stages Theatre, Hopkins, Minnesota from April 27, 2012 - May 20, 2012. Opening night is SOLD OUT.

The lead, Minli, is played by Danielle Wong, a student in Apple Valley.  She has acted and sung in several children’s theater productions in the Twin Cities.

The production “packages” multiple Chinese folktales into a climb by Minli and Dragon (Maxwell Chonk Thao) up a tall mountain.  She is searching for the Old Man of the Moon to change her family fortune while Dragon would like to ask how to fly.  Along the way, together they engage with characters from Chinese lore and confront one challenge after another.  The ending is delightful!

Based upon the 2010 Newberry Honor book by Grace Lin, this production is guided by Sandy Boren-Barrett of Stages, together with Rick Shiomi of the Mu Performing Arts.  The directors selected 15 talented Minnesota children and three adults, all of whom have some kind of connection to China/Asia -- either by birth to Asian parents or through adoption.
