Day 2 - The Beautiful Nice

Nice, France
We arrived in Nice around noon today and the views, as we waited to land from the plane, were spectacular. The Mediterranean Sea was underneath us with clear blue water filled with ships and many sailboats. We were all so excited to finally get here. As we waited outside the airport with our luggage, the weather was beautiful. It was around 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky! We met our tour guide, Peter, who is a very nice man with a lot of knowledge about Nice in general.

We all loaded the bus and took a mini overview tour of Nice. If I had to compare it to a place I have been to before, I would say the promenade reminded me of the boardwalks of California. Nice is very tropical with palm trees, long strands of beaches, promenades, and houses and apartments built into the stone bluffs. We stopped and got out for pictures towards the top of the bluffs with the Mediterranean surrounding us. It was completely gorgeous.
After driving back to our hotel, in the center of the city, we finally checked into our rooms and changed out of our airport clothes. I was lucky enough to get my own room and I loved it, it was nicer than my parents' … which may have made them regret taking me on this trip. I had a king size bed with windows that completely opened to a view of the streets of downtown Nice. Since I am currently in college, the nightlife noise was comforting. I told my dad that you get what you get, which is what he would have told me if I got the worse room. He didn’t argue.

We got settled and walked with Peter, our tour guide, through the streets of downtown. There were plenty of people, sculptures and pigeons. We then strolled to the beach and took pictures next to the Mediterranean and some of us decided to grab some drinks and snacks at a restaurant on the beach called Plage Beau Rivage, the had excellent pizza, French fries, wine and beer. It was still gorgeous outside in the mid ‘70s so we hoped to have seen our tan later that night!
We all went back to our rooms to try and nap, considering most of us haven’t really slept for over 30 hours. We got ready to go out to dinner, with the meal already planned for us at Sarao. We had wine, salad, chicken and potatoes with an apple tart for dessert. It was delicious and a good transition meal from the states to Europe. We stopped at a gelato shop on the walk back to the hotel and tried many different kinds including, Snickers, raspberry, fudge and Carmello.
After a long day of traveling and seeing the beautiful city of Nice, France, we were exhausted! As soon as my head hit the pillow, I didn’t wake up until my dad was knocking on my door in the morning for breakfast at 7 a.m. There were no clocks in the room and I have no phone (which is hard for me to go without). Back to the old days with no electronics to wake you up, which I have to say, is kind of nice. More to come soon!
From Nice,
Megan
