Finding Classes for Tiny Toddlers

Try dance and gymnastics classes for toddlers 18 months and up to avoid being cooped up in the house.

My 18-month-old daughter loves to dance and I like to have diversions that get us out of the house (especially in the winter). So I started looking into what our options were for different types of classes to take in the area. At first glance, there were none. Everything I found had a minimum age requirement of 3 years old to enroll.

As a stay-at-home I find this to be a constant struggle. A lot of fun things have pesky minimum age requirements that, I think, are designed to keep out the toddlers still wearing diapers. This is especially frustrating for us moms who are stuck inside all winter with rambunctious 1- and 2-year-olds.

Fortunately, I finally found a dance class that we can enroll in through Just For Kix. It is designed for toddlers 18 months to 35 months and is a Mommy & Me class. The class is 30 minutes long and is held once a week on Thursday nights at the Akin Road Elementary School in Farmington from September through April.

The only bummer about registering was they didn't have an option to do it online so you'll have to print out the form and mail it in. Oh, and I saw the costume they'll be wearing and it's too cute for words! I can't wait to see her in it for her first dance recital.

Another option, if your tiny tot isn't into dance, is gymnastics. I could have sworn that TAGS Gymnastics in Apple Valley had a minimum age requirement of 2 before, but I just checked and it looks like they have a GymBabies class they offer to ages 18 to 23 months. Again, this is a 30-minute, once-a-week, parent accompanied class, and they offer it Monday through Saturday at different times.

I know it's a little early to be thinking about it, but hopefully these classes will help you and your tiny toddler be a little less cooped up this winter.
