iPad Apps for Moms and Kids

Read about my favorite apps for keeping a toddler entertained—and for making my house cleaner!

Last Valentine’s Day I was lucky enough to get an iPad from my husband. I know, way better than flowers right? He even sold one of his guns to be able to get it for me. Feel free to throw up in your mouth now. :)

Anyway, I wasn’t sure if or how I would use it, but it’s been awesome to have. The biggest benefit is it keeps my daughter entertained in an educational way, but there are other apps that are for me too. Here are some of my favorites:

1) Interactive Alphabet - Says the name of the letter that you touch, a word that starts with that letter, then makes the letter sound. Also has an interactive picture the kiddos can play with for each letter. My favorite is Baby Mode, where the cards auto advance since my daughter doesn’t understand how to navigate around the app yet.

2) Toddler Counting - Asks the toddler to count the object and each time they press one of the many pictures of that object it counts for them. Once they’ve counted all the objects on the page, it says “You did it!” and other encouraging phrases like that. I like it because my daughter learns the names of different things and learns how to count at the same time.

3) SoundTouch - Self explanatory. Pictures that when touched, make a corresponding sound. They have different categories: farm animals, zoo animals, birds, transportation, instruments, and home items.

4) Magic Piano - A piano on the iPad. Hours of entertainment for my daughter.

5) HomeRoutines - I’m pretty sure this app has strengthened my marriage. It’s dumb, but it’s very gratifying to be able to check off all the menial things I do in a day. As a result, I’ve been cleaning more often, which has made me (and my husband) ultimately happier. You can add a to-do list and keep track of weekly tasks. It has a lot of tasks already built in but you can edit it easily.

6) AppAdvice - Gives me the skinny on all the newest apps and gives a review on each one. They also have handy app lists with categories like “iPad Apps To Keep You Organized” and “Best iPad Children’s Books.”

Hope you like these, too!
