It Doesn't Have to be Complicated!

Try this economical alternative to the $4 or $5 store-bought greeting cards.

Compared to my growing-up years, life is so different for today's generation.  Instant access to people and information is available thanks to cell phones, email  and the Internet.  Now, don't get me wrong.  I appreciate and use this technology in my daily life.  However, I'm still a bit "old-fashioned" at heart.  I prefer holding an actual book in my hands over reading an electronic one; creating a scrapbook page using tangible scrapbook paper, scissors and markers rather than digitally on a computer; and making and sending a paper card over a digitial one (or an email or text).

That said, the average cost of a card in the store is in the $4-$5 range, which is expensive for a piece of message paper. I've found that the solution is to make my own cards.

The card I'm sharing today goes together quickly, with little thought, so it's a great one to use when you need a card on short notice.  In fact, a time-saving idea would be to create a dozen of these basic cards without sentiments and add the needed sentiment just before sending the card.  This way, you'd have a stash of cards on hand that could be used for any occasion that may arise.

Directions:  The card base itself is a piece of 8.5" x 5.5" card stock folded in half.  The cream color matte card stock piece is 5.5" x 2 1/2". The designer paper piece is 5.5" x 2" and adhered to the cream card stock piece.  This strip is then attached to the card front.  The cream color piece for the sentiment is 2.5" x 1.5", but could be varied to fit the sentiment size.

Check out the second photo.  This shows a great way to add a little extra to the inside of your card.  The designer paper strips are 1/4" wide.

If sending an actual paper card is important to you, try this design and see if it isn't one that you will use again and again when a card is needed on short notice.
