School of Rock Showcases Local Youth in Weekend Concerts

After months of rehearsals and countless hours honing their Rock skills, several Apple Valley teens hit the stage at Bogarts this weekend as the Burnsville School of Rock presents its Spring Season on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Open to all ages, the concerts are from 12:00-3:00 p.m. both days. Admission, which is $10 at the door, covers two 90-minute concerts: West Coast Rock and MP3 Shuffle.

Kids from several area communities attend the Burnsville School of Rock, among them are Apple Valley’s own Nina Bruneau – Guitar/Vocals, Justen Huard - Drums, Blake Huebl - Drums, and Ted Tiedemann – Guitar/Bass.

“We’re very proud of all the kids, who have put so much time and effort into not only getting ready to put on a great Rock-n-Roll show, but who are working diligently at their art,” said Stacey Marmalejo, owner of the Burnsville School of Rock. “The music and the musicianship absolutely matter to us, but more than anything we want to ensure that these young people are learning about what it takes to work with others in a band, to make the commitment to be prepared, and to show the support to one another that makes music such a special activity.”

The West Coast Rock show will feature the music The Doors, Grateful Dead, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine and more, while the MP3 Shuffle covers The Black Keys, Social Distortion, Muse and more.

“Our goal each season is to put together shows that reflect the breadth and depth of Rock music over the years,” said Marmalejo. “Whether it is contemporary stars like The Black Keys or groups like The Doors who made history back in the day, we do all we can to ensure that our students are being exposed to different genres and eras within Rock, while seeing their skills challenged and developed.”
