The Eastview Thunder shuts down host Apple Valley 76ers 5-0 in American Legion baseball play Thursday.

The Eastview Thunder got standout pitching and all the offense it needed with one swing of the bat in a 5-0 win on Thursday over the Apple Valley 76ers, in a "D" League Third District American Legion game.

After a scoreless first inning, Eastview's David Barry socked a solo home run in the second, followed by a single by Matt Larson, a double by Cody Groskravrz and a single by Cameron Hall to give the Eastview Thunder a 3-0 lead.

Eastview added scores in the fourth and sixth to pad its advantage.

Apple Valley, however, had trouble connecting off Eastview pitchers. Eastview starter Joey Voss gave up just three hits and struck out seven to earn the win.

Eastview was coming off a doubleheader split against Prior Lake on Monday, where they lost 4-3 in the opener and won 16-9 in the nightcap. In the first game, the Thunder had 13 fly ball outs. That didn't happen Thursday.

"We had zero fly balls," said team manager Bob Klefsaas. "We put the ball in play and we made them catch the ball. We also had 17 walks in the doubleheader and today we had two."

It was the third straight loss and second time in two nights Apple Valley was shut out. The 76ers dropped a 14-12 decision to Lakeville South on Tuesday and lost a 1-0 game to Eagan on Wednesday.

Apple Valley fell to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. The team will play Friday through Sunday in the Winona Tournament, starting with a 6:30 p.m. game Friday against Oconomowoc, WI.
