Eastview Boys Golf In Fifth After First Day At State

The Eastview boys golf team sits in fifth place after Tuesday’s first round of the Class AAA state meet at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

The Lightning finished the day with a team total of 309 strokes. Eden Prairie and Rogers are tied for first at 299, and two-time defending champion Wayzata is third at 301.

Individually, Forest Lake’s Max Kelly leads the pack with a round of 70.

Eastview senior Sam Christian leads the Lightning after the first day. Christian is tied for 11th with 10 other individuals with a round of 74.

Senior Max Tylke is tied for 22nd with a round of 75, while Erik Edsten, Lucas Allen and Matt Foley all finished the day tied for 49th with a round of 80. Max Smith rounds out the team with an 83, good for 72nd place.

Apple Valley junior Sean Lang, the Eagles’ lone entrant at the state meet, shot an 82 and is tied for 65th.

Opatz, Kerr finish first day at girls tournament

At the Class AAA girls state tournament, Eastview senior Kristie Opatz is currently tied for 14th overall in the standings. She and two other golfers shot an 81 on the day, 10 shots off the pace. 

Apple Valley freshman Lauren Kerr finished the day 79th overall with a score of 99.

New Prague freshman McKenzie Neisen is leading the girls’ tournament with a score of 71.

The girls tournament tees off at 11:40 a.m. for the second day of competition.
