Eastview's Tylke Takes 3rd At State Boys Golf; Team Finishes 5th

The Lightning senior shot a one-under 71 on Wednesday at the Class AAA state tournament; the team finished fifth overall.

Eastview senior Max Tylke did everything he could to fight back into contention Wednesday at the Class AAA state boys golf tournament, and he nearly skyrocketed to the top.

Tylke followed up his round of 75 on Tuesday with a 71 on Wednesday—including a two-under 34 on his first nine holes—to tie for third place individually with a 146 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids. Tylke, who was tied for 22nd after the first day, finished one-under par on the day.

He finished three strokes behind Forest Lake’s Max Kelly, who shot a 143 for the tournament.

The Lightning as a team held steady in the standings. Eastview finished fifth overall at the Class AAA meet with a score of 617. Wayzata and Rogers tied for the state championship, each shooting a 592 over the two-day event.

Individually for the Lightning, Sam Christian tied for 15th overall with a 150, Matt Foley and Max Smith each tied for 54th overall with a 162 and Erik Edsten finished 60th with a 163. Lucas Allen finished 75th overall with a 168.

For Apple Valley, Sean Lang finished the tournament tied for 71st overall with a 165.

BOYS INDIVIDUAL TOP RESULTS — 1. Max Kelly (Forest Lake) 143, 2. McCabe Buege (Rogers) 144, 3. Max Tylke (Eastview) 146, 3. Tyler Lowenstein (Wayzata) 146, 3. Ben Welle (Moorhead) 146, Jon Dutoit (Chaska) 146.

Opatz, Kerr finish up state tourney rounds

On the girls side, Eastview senior Kristi Opatz finished the state tournament with a 164, good for a tie with four others for 18th overall. Apple Valley freshman Lauren Kerr finished with a 196, which earned her 74th place.

Cretin-Derham Hall freshman Celia Kuenster and Stillwater Area’s Cassie Deeg finished tied for first place on Wednesday with a 148. On the team side, Wayzata won the state championship by shooting a 661. Stillwater finished second with a 668 team score.
