About Faith:

Faith is our spunky, duck loving, princess little girl who has showed sass and fight since the very beginning. She came into this world in a hurry at 1 pound 10 ounces and we thought we would need a lot of “faith” to get us through that journey- so Faith her name became. Oh how fitting that name has been through out her 7 1/2 years of life. Having “faith” has gotten us through Faith’s premature birth, her diagnosis of being hard of hearing which lead to 9 ear surgeries and bilateral cochlear implants AND “faith” will get us through this next journey that has abruptly invaded our lives.

Faith had been showing very little energy over the course of approximately 2 to 3 weeks. After school was out it became more and more noticeable that she wasn’t her energetic self. I could no longer find any excuse of what it could be so with an awful gut feeling I brought Faith to the doctor on Friday, June 22. Seeing the doctors concern and the doctor wanting to do blood work made my feeling only worse. We left the clinic for home to await the call-and it came.

Faith’s white blood cell, hemoglobin and platelet counts we quite low and her liver enzymes were skyrocketing. All huge red flags and the doctor already had Faith’s admission in process up at the Childrens Amplatz University Hospital. This is where our rollercoaster ride of emotions and fears have begun. Shortly after getting Faith settled into her room, the oncology doctor sat us down and told us that their biggest concern was leukemia. I do believe the word “leukemia” rattle my body and brain so hard it sent my stomach right up into my throat. To be sure the doctors had to do a serious of tests but many test couldn’t be done until after the weekend-ugh. However chest x-rays and ultrasounds were done to determine if there was a mass anywhere—none thankfully. Faith’s blood was taken everyday to carefully watch her blood counts to determine if a blood/or platelet transfusion would be necessary— none so far. Faith had an IV antibiotics to make sure to help any infections that may try to enter her body because all her blood counts were low. This endured until Monday, June 25th when she finally had a bone marrow biopsy. By Monday evening the preliminary results were delivered to us. LEUKEMIA CELLS were indeed found in Faith’s bone marrow. Those 2 words screamed through my head. As her parent all I could think about is how unfair it was that she would once again have to fight.
