RHS Wrestling's Golf Tournament Fundraiser Quickly Approaching

The booster club still needs hole sponsors and group foursomes for its annual golf tournament.

The Rosemount High School wrestling team's fourth annual golf tournament is quickly approaching, and there is still room for foursomes and hole sponsors.

Nikki Jackson, a member of the RHS Wrestling Booster Club, said foursomes can apply up until the day before the event and hole sponsors are needed by early July. There are three levels of hole sponsors: Gold ($500), Silver ($250) and Bronze ($100). Each sponsor will receive a sign that will be placed at a hole at the tournament -- and the signs get larger with each level of sponsors.

The golf tournament will be held on Saturday, July 23 at Southern Hills Golf Course in Farmington for the second year in a row. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and the event will start at 1 p.m.

It will cost $90 per golfer. The fee includes lunch, dinner, 18 holes of golf, cart, a T-shirt and a gift bag. There will also be a silent auction and raffle that will take place the same day at dinner, however, only cash or check will be accepted.

"[The golf tournament] is a great day for our program. It's a fun way to raise money. It doesn't seem like work and it's [wonderful] to get everyone together," Coach Henry Gerten said.

According to Gerten, people that attend the event genuinely like to go to support the cause, as well as like to golf.

The booster club is hoping to have 36 foursomes registered, which would be an increase from the 30 they had last year. Golfers that register as singles will be placed into groups of four.

According to a brochure on the event, there will also be additional games including long drive, putt and closest-to-the-hole on certain par threes. Prizes will be given to the top three teams.

Gerten said they hope to raise $5,000-$10,000 through this fundraiser. The money the wrestling team earns will help fund the team's overnight trip to Moorhead (including busing, food and hotel). The money helps to "give opportunities to those that may not be able to go unless we subsidized or help pay for the trip," Gerten said.

In addition, the money will help fund an intensive wrestling camp, T-shirts, mats and uniforms.
