Rosemount Sixth Grader Nearly Hit After Exiting School Bus: Video
Disturbing video shows how an 11-year-old girl was nearly hit by a vehicle after she exited her school bus.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — Minnesota law enforcement officials say video of an 11-year-old girl being nearly hit by a vehicle after she exited her school bus to walk home highlights the need for motorists to obey the stop arm law. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) released the disturbing video Monday morning that showed a motorist who fails to stop for a school bus.
Miana Rhoades walked about halfway across the street when a pickup truck blitzed by her. Thankfully, the bus driver alerted Rhoades to the passing vehicle using his horn, helping the Rosemount sixth grader avoid injury or possible death.
The driver was found by police and charged, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Patch has reached out to authorities for more information on the charge.

DPS said motorists failing to stop for school buses continues to be a serious issue that risks children’s lives. During the annual School Bus Stop Arm Survey earlier this year, 3,659 bus drivers across the state reported 703 stop arm violations in just one day.
State law requires vehicles to stop for school buses when the bus driver activates the flashing lights and has the crossing arm fully extended. As of Aug. 1, drivers who violate that law will face a larger fine as citations increased from $300 to $500 this year for stop arm violations.
